Greenville County Schools
School Librarian
Armstrong Elementary School
My name is Laura Griner. I am the librarian at Armstrong Elementary School. I am loving working with all of the students at Armstrong. The last fifteen years I have been teaching science to seventh graders. While I enjoyed that immensely, I needed a new adventure. A girl can only dissect so many frogs, and 850 was the magic number for me. I love reading books and working with students on research projects. Prior to my MLIS, I basically was coveting being in the library everyday, so I went back to school at USC to complete my second masters degree in library and information science. My goal is to support student achievement by working with students and collaborating with teachers to design and implement standards based projects. I also hope to help each child enjoy reading for pleasure. What a great job! I am super blessed to have this opportunity!

When I am not working, I enjoy being a wife and mom. Of course reading is one of my hobbies. I also love to travel. I adore French Bull dogs and killer whales. I play the cello and am always game to attend musical theater. I am a Hello Kitty fan-girl too.

Currently professionally I am working with Melinda Long, a local artist, on the Afghan Book Collection project (ABC). ABC is sending children's books translated in Dari, Pashto, and English to Afghanistan to cultivate children's libraries, which are not common in that country. I look forward to sharing with you this amazing story and to inspire you to make a difference in global literacy.
