The story takes place on Edisto Island, SC, with Trina, a thirteen-year-old puppy raiser, her service dog, Sydney, and her long time BFF, Sarah. At the beach, the girls find they have grown apart until they care for a loggerhead's turtle's nest, Sydney makes a magical connection with a child with autism, and brings the girls together with the two older brothers.
